Barry Savasta won his first ABT title by defeating Katha Phadongpun 206-193 in our 2005 Kick-Off event at Lakeside Lanes in Mundelein. Barry qualified 4th for the top 8 finals then advanced by defeating Nancy Hornung 229-179, and Rudy Castro 191-188. Katha qualified 8th and he advanced by defeating Jo Jo Sta Maria 219-172, and Kathy Bell 177-148. Katha jumped out to a 28-pin lead after 4 frames of the championship match but left splits in the 5th and 6th frames allowing Barry to close the gap. Barry then doubled in the 7th and 8th frames and struck out in the 10th to seal the deal by the final score of 206-193. Champion’s Profile: Barry Savasta is 57 years old and retired from the Teamsters Union. He is married to Jennifer and has 3 grown children, Angelo, Daniel, and Stacy. Barry has been bowling for 30 years and currently bowls league at Riviera Lanes in West Allis. WI. He has a high game of 298 and a 778 high series to his credit. Barry was using a Track Rule drilled by Scott Maikowski at Precision Bowling Pro Shop. Barry said that Scott Maikowski, Bruce Coffee, and John Maga have helped him to improve his game. He thanked his wife Jennifer and Darrell Mizel for their support, the ABT for having the tournament, and Lakeside Lanes for hosting it. Barry said his winnings would be used for home improvements. He closed his interview by saying he was glad he finally won after 5 long years of trying. congratulations barry!BTD: In the Beat the Director match Scott O’Neill defeated ABT Director Mike Fagan 198-183 to win $189.00. Rick Wunder won the $25. Spectator Bonus. The carryover for the net BTD is $164.00.
