*** Bruce Wins Chicagoland South Grand Opener ***
|
Brad Bruce won his first ABT title by
defeating Derrick Allen 193-174 in our Chicagoland South Grand Opening at
AMF Bolingbrook.
In match one of the stepladder finals Marie
Herwy defeated Carlew Milan 249-213. In match two Marie Herwy defeated
Mary Jane Sulit 256-209. In match three Brad Bruce defeated Marie Herwy
252-180 to advance to the championship match against top seed Derrick
Allen. Derrick had a 36-pin handicap advantage to start the title match
and he held that advantage for the first 6 frames. Disaster then struck
Derrick as he opened in the 7th, 8th and 9th frames to open the door for
Brad. Brad jumped on his opportunity with a strike in the 7th, a spare in
the 8th, then a turkey in the 9th and 10th frames to come from behind and
win the match by the final score of 193-174.
Champion’s Profile: Brad Bruce is 25 years
old and employed as a truck driver. He and his wife Laura are newlyweds
with a 4-month-old son named Kevin. Brad has been bowling for 17 years and
currently bowls league at Wheaton Bowl. He has a high game of 288 and a
699 high series to his credit. Brad was using a Track Freak Out drilled by
Rich Johnson at D&D Pro Shop inside Wheaton Bowl. He credits Rich Johnson
and Mike Druzgala as having helped him to improve his game. Brad thanked
his wife Laura for her support along with the ABT and AMF Bolingbrook for
having the event. His winnings will be used for the ABC’s in Baton Rouge
this March. Brad said it’s been 7 years of trying before finally winning
an event but it’s been worth it.
congratulations
Brad!
Tournament Notes: Eric Zeedyk had a
652 series and Rich Anifer had a 683 series on the Saturday noon squad to
win 3-ball bags from Stars and Strikes Pro Shop. Chris Hammock had a 670
series and Robert Finder had a 671series on the Sunday 10:30 squad to win
2-ball bags from Storm. Nice bowling all!
Tournament Notes II: We were saddened
to hear of the passing last week of ABT member Donnie Kaskadden. He will
be missed in the ABT. Our condolences go out to all of his family and
friends.
