Thomas A. Smith won his first ABT title by
defeating Dan Schomig 259-209 at AMF Classic Lanes.
Thomas qualified 4th for the stepladder
finals and started his climb to the top by defeating Toney Henderson
223-168. Next up was Hank Duncan who fell 258-211. In match three Thomas
eliminated Dave Fitzpatrick 275-207 to earn his shot at top seed Dan
Schomig. In the title match Thomas struck in 7 of the first 8 frames to
take a commanding lead then he sealed the deal with a double in the 10th
to win by the final score of 259-209.
Champion’s Profile: Thomas A. Smith
is 23 years old and employed as a sanitation engineer. He has been bowling
for 13 years and currently bowls at AMF Bolingbrook. Thomas has a high
game of 279 and a 747 high series to his credit. He was using a BVP
Goliath and a BVP Punisher drilled by Brian Spiller at Stars and Strikes
Pro Shop inside AMF Bolingbrook. Thomas thanked his girlfriend Jaime Phad
for all her support, the ABT and AMF Classic for having the event, and
Stars and Strikes Pro Shop for their help with equipment choices and
drilling. Thomas said that he had no immediate plans for his winnings and
that he was sure happy to see the Chicagoland South Branch open.
