Tommy Smith earned his “black shirt” by winning his second ABT title with a 187-186 win over Mike Rimkavich at Comet Lanes. In match one of the stepladder finals Gabe Blau defeated Scott Ullian 179-175. In match two Chris Whitaker defeated Gabe Blau 240-163. In match three Mike Rimkavich defeated Chris Whitaker 219-199 to advance to the title match against top seed Tommy Smith. The championship match was a nail-biter with the lead changing hands several times. Both bowlers opened in the 10th frame but Mike knocked down 8 while Tommy got 9 to win by a single pin, 187-186. Champion’s Profile: Tommy Smith is 23 years old and employed as a sanitation engineer. He has been bowling for 13 years and currently bowls league at AMF Bolingbrook. His high game is 279 and he has a 777 high series to his credit. Tom was using a Brunswick Nemesis drilled by Brian Spiller at Stars and Strikes Pro Shop inside AMF Bolingbrook Lanes. Tommy thanked his girlfriend Jaime Phad and his friends and family for their support. He also thanked the ABT and Comet Lanes for having the event. Tommy said his winnings would be used for a new car and he closed his interview by saying, “I love this game.” congratulations Tommy!
