Kathy Atkins won her second ABT title by defeating Verdell Love 221-208 at Brunswick Zone Deer Park. In match one of the stepladder finals Flor Serain defeated Frank Marack Jr. 228-227. In match two Kathy Atkins defeated Flor Serain 205-193. In match three Kathy Atkins defeated Frank Taylor 233-220 to advance to the title match against top seed Verdell Love. The championship match entered the final two frames with Kathy clinging to a 2-pin lead. Verdell doubled in the 9th and 10th frames but Kathy did him one better with 3 strikes in the last 2 frames to win the match by the final score of 221-208. Champion’s Profile: Kathy Atkins is 46 years old and employed as a recruiter for Manpower. She is married to Darreyl and has 4 children, Nina, Danea, Jolisa, and Darreyl II. Kathy has been bowling for 17 years and bowls leagues at Brunswick Zone Fountain Square, Hillside, and Classic Lanes. She has a high game of 285 and a 668 high series to her credit. Kathy was using an Ebonite Adrenaline drilled by Brian Chilcutt at striking Distance Pro Shop inside Hawthorn Lanes. Kathy credits her X-Factor teammates as having helped her with her game. She thanked her husband, her family, Roger Robinette, RSD, Sparky, and everyone who supported her. She also thanked the ABT and Deer Park for having the event. When asked about her winnings Kathy’s reply was: “Oh Happy Day!” CONGRATULATIONS Kathy!Tournament Notes: Jim Brandt won a 2-ball bag from Bowlers Aid Pro Shop by posting the high series on the Saturday 11am squad.
