Matt Sanchez won his first ABT title by going from fifth to first at Comet Lanes. Matt started his climb in the stepladder finals by defeating Mike Martenson Sr. 221-201. He then squeaked by Hank Duncan 238-237. In match three he ousted Leland Palinski 228-202 to advance to the championship match against top seed Joe Fairless. Matt started the title match with a 4-bagger but couldn’t shake Joe and after 6 frames Matt led by just 3 pins. Joe then left a pocket 7-10 in frame 7 and Matt jumped on the opportunity with a turkey to pull away to the final 240-217 victory. Champion’s Profile: Matt Sanchez is 58 years old and employed as a technician. He is married to Wanda and they have two sons, Jon and Adam. Matt has been bowling for about 35 years and currently bowls leagues at Brunswick Zone Woodridge and Lombard Lanes. His high game is 300 and he has a 768 high series to his credit. Matt was using a Brunswick Ultimate Inferno drilled by Ed Moores at Custom Pro Shop inside Bowling Green Sports Center. He thanked his sons Jon and Adam, Ed Moores, and Tim Culp for their support along with Comet Lanes for another great job in hosting the ABT. Matt said his winnings would be used to help celebrate his 32nd anniversary with a trip to Las Vegas. congratulations Matt!
