Joe DiCola went from 5th to 1st at Brunswick Zone River Grove to claim his first ABT title. Joe started his climb by defeating Rich Arens 234-209. In match two Joe squeaked by DJ Powell 225-224. In match three Joe defeated Dean D’Alessandro 270-231 to advance to the championship match against top seed Mike Martenson Sr. Joe turkeyed to start the title match and build an early 35-pin lead. Mike tried to mount a comeback in the middle frames but a 4-9 rail in between two doubles sealed his fate as Joe cruised to the 268-209 final score. Champion’s Profile: Joe DiCola is 32 years old and employed as a project manager for an electrical company. He is married to Linda and they have a one-year-old child, Brody. Joe has been bowling for 27 years and bowls leagues at Lombard Lanes and Broadview Bowl. He has a high game of 296 and a 772 high series to his credit. Joe was using a Lane 1 Cobalt Bomb that he had drilled at the USBC Nationals. He credits Mike Rimkavich as having helped him to improve his game. Joe thanked his wife Linda for letting him bowl along with the ABT staff and Brunswick Zone for having the event. His winnings will be used to pay bills.
