John Lee won his 4th ABT title by defeating Robert Makino 211-210 in our Chicagoland Open event at Lombard Lanes. John qualified 16th for the top 24 finals then advanced by defeating Jim Kedroski 272-199, Bobby Bass 205-201, Charlie Kerr 236-172 and Keith Kroll 257-193. Robert qualified 1st earning byes in the first two rounds of match play. He then advanced by defeating Sheldon Mathis 221-169 and Matt Kirkham 208-198. The title match was a nail-biter that came down to the final frame. Needing a double to win, Robert struck on his first shot but left an 8 pin on his second ball leaving John the winner by the final score of 211-210. Champion’s Profile: John Lee is 31 years old and employed as a pro shop manager. He has been bowling since junior leagues and currently bowls at St. Charles Bowl. His high game is 300 and he has an 812 high series to his credit. John was using a Brunswick Vapor Zone that he drilled himself at Bowlers Universe St. Charles. He credits Tom Carter as having helped him to improve his game. John thanked Peg George, Jim Peach, Harvey Lee and Bill Tiritilli for their support. He also thanked the ABT and Lombard Lanes for having the event. John said his winnings would be used for bills, more ABT tournaments and a little fun. He also said that the win came as a surprise as he is still healing from a post Christmas car accident.
